Gather around my people, it is time to fix the things. Those days of staying busy with a result of low production need to come to an end. Here are things that eat into our time and we barely notice.
NOT HAVING A VISUAL TO-DO LIST.
Funny story, I just scolded someone for this very point. They got a very good opportunity and almost missed it because they FORGOT! Could never be me! You know why? Because my night routine includes writing my to-do list. So, add this to your routine and avoid being all over the place and having zero progress at the end of the day.
OVERLOADING
Ok, you have a long to-do list, that is great but then this does not mean you need to do it all in a day. So prioritise from most important to the least important. Overloading yourself leads to frustration and very low productivity. Tackling 5 things and actually doing them well is better than touch and go.
TOO MUCH CLUTTER
A clean working space makes for great working conditions. Clutter means you take more time to find things or you have to pause and actually clean up. Time wasted! Clean up and find a way to coordinate your documents and your files if you have any.
MULTITASKING
Why are you trying to cook and type and make a phone call at the same time? No way you are getting anything done, so work with a schedule. Do one thing at a time and get it done, check it off your list and move.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Our beloved drug! I absolutely love twitter and there was a time when I would feel like something was missing if I did not log on. Then I realized the time I was wasting on there and missing deadlines. Then I decided to assign time in my day when I scrolled on twitter, guess who is winning?
CHECKING EMAILS WHEN YOU CAN NOT ACTION THEM
If you cannot respond to emails then why are you checking them? You will then have to come back and check them again. Twice? Just assign time when you check your emails, add it to your to-do list. I prefer mornings and end of the day for this.
POOR PLANNING
Plan your weeks and your months if possible. Doing things randomly means you miss some things and you waste time on things that do not deserve your time. You may even find yourself going in circles.
RELATIONSHIPS THAT DO NOT ADD VALUE
Get you friends that are supportive. That’s it, that is the point!
NOT PLANNING YOUR MEALS
The time you spend standing by the fridge trying to figure out what you want to eat and how to cook it, eats into your time. I know people who prepare their meals on a Sunday and freeze it, as the weeks goes they just reheat and dig in. It is a plan! Try it. I should too. *hides*
WAITING FOR INSPIRATION
What if it never comes, then what? Go out there and find the inspiration. Time waits for nobody so you need to get on it and do something.
May we go out there and do better with our lives and most importantly our time. We move!
